Pete Byrne, the English singer best known as a member of the pop and new wave band Naked Eyes, died on September 14, 2026, aged 74.
Born Peter James Byrne on June 9, 1952, in Bath, Somerset, he began his career in the 1970s and was active through 2026. Byrne had earlier been part of the short-lived British group Neon with future Naked Eyes partner Rob Fisher, alongside Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith of Tears for Fears.
He and Fisher formed Naked Eyes in 1982, and the band went on to chart with “Always Something There to Remind Me,” a synth-pop cover of the Burt Bacharach standard, followed by the Top 40 singles “Promises, Promises,” “When the Lights Go Out” and “(What) In the Name of Love.”
