Born on September 5, 1934, he was a Malayalam-language poet and critic from Haripad in Kerala, where he grew up in an atmosphere shaped by music and temple art. He studied science and education at University College, Trivandrum, and later earned a master’s degree in English with distinction while working in the Central Ministry in Delhi. Over the course of his career, he wrote poetry as well as works on satire, criticism and travel memoirs, and served in editorial and institutional roles that included the Language Institute in Trivandrum, the Publications Division in New Delhi, Kerala Kala Mandalam and Bharat Bhavan.
