Born in Texas City, Texas, he worked extensively on English-language dubs of Japanese anime as a voice actor, ADR director, script writer and line producer. He was best known as the original English voice of Master Roshi and Yajirobe in Funimation’s Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z dubs, and also voiced Jean Havoc in Fullmetal Alchemist, Jean Kirstein in Attack on Titan, Teppei Sugo in Psycho-Pass and Buggy the Clown in the Funimation dub of One Piece.
McFarland also directed voice work on titles including Dragon Ball, Fullmetal Alchemist, Case Closed, Attack on Titan, the Rebuild of Evangelion films and Summer Wars.
