Brennan, an American financial economist, died September 12, 2026, at age 83. He was emeritus professor of finance at the UCLA Anderson School of Management and had earlier taught at the London Business School.
Brennan helped design the Brennan-Schwartz interest rate model and was a pioneer in real options theory. His research ranged across asset pricing, corporate finance, derivative securities, market microstructure, and the role of information in capital markets, and he also served as president of the American Finance Association, as editor of the Journal of Finance and as founding editor of the Review of Financial Studies.
