Liliana Angulo Cortés, a Colombian visual artist, died on February 21, 2026.
Born in Bogotá in 1974, she held a degree in sculpture from the National University of Colombia, an MFA from the University of Illinois Chicago, and a master’s in anthropology from the University of Los Andes in Colombia. Through her artistic practice, she used the lens of gender, race and identity to explore representations of the Black woman in contemporary culture.
She was also an activist and academic, and worked for more than 20 years on Afro-descendant experience and related images and stereotypes.
