Karen Shaw Petrou, an American financial analyst and co-founder of Federal Financial Analytics, died on February 21, 2026, of cancer in Washington, D.C., at the age of 72.

Born Karen Ann Dolmatch in New York City on March 6, 1953, she grew up in Briarcliff Manor, New York. Petrou provided analytic and advisory services on legislation, public policy, and regulatory issues affecting financial services in the United States and foreign countries.

She earned an undergraduate degree in political science from Wellesley College, studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and received an M.A. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, where she was also a doctoral candidate.
