A Democrat, he represented Indiana’s 9th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1965 to 1999 and later served on several governmental advisory boards.
Following his departure from Congress, Hamilton was a member of the U.S. Homeland Security Advisory Council and served as vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission.
