Born in Guntur district, he was credited as Yellapragada Sowbhagya Krishneswara Rao and built a long career across the stage and screen. He acted in more than 1,500 stage plays and also wrote several of them, beginning as an artist during his school days with his first play, Vapas.
On film, he was noted for playing a beggar in Chandamama Kathalu (2014), a role that earned him a Nandi Special Jury Award, and he also appeared in productions including Prachanda Bharatam, Ankuram, Bhadrachalam and Konchem Touchlo Vunte Cheputanu.
