Jesper Bøje Christensen, the Danish harpsichordist and music researcher known for his work on basso continuo, died on July 8, 2026, at age 81.

Born in Copenhagen on December 3, 1944, he taught historical composition, continuo and performance practice at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen from 1972 to 1985. From 1988, he was on the faculty of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where he taught harpsichord, basso continuo, chamber music and performance practice.

Christensen also served as a visiting professor in Lyon and at the Geneva conservatory’s early music department, and he wrote Die Grundlagen des Generalbassspiels im 18. Jahrhundert, published in Kassel in 1992, as well as a joint article on general bass in Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart.
