Jeff Griffin (politician) American politician dead at age 81

Jeff Griffin, an American businessman and politician who served as mayor of Reno, Nevada, from 1995 to 2002, died on February 5, 2026.

During his tenure, he chaired the Criminal and Social Justice committee of the United States Conference of Mayors and served as president of the Nevada World Trade Council. He was known for the removal of Reno’s historic downtown railroad tracks and as a progenitor of Artown and the Veteran’s Day Parade.

After leaving office, he served as a regional director for FEMA. In 2018, the city awarded him the Reno People Award.
