Jacques Witt French journalist dead at age 67

Jacques Witt

Jacques Witt, a French journalist and photographer who worked for Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace and Sipa Press, died on April 11, 2026.

Born in Strasbourg in 1958, he earned his baccalauréat from the Lycée Kléber before joining Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace in 1980. He freelanced for Sipa Press before joining the agency’s permanent staff in 1984.

Witt received accreditation from the Élysée Palace in 1985 and covered events including the 1985 New Caledonian legislative election, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the release of Nelson Mandela from prison.
