Ivo Šlaus, the Croatian physicist and politician, died on August 8, 2026, aged 94.
Born in Split in 1931, he studied physics at the University of Zagreb, earning a B.Sc. in 1954 and a Ph.D.
in 1958. His work centered on nuclear and particle physics, and he went on to hold a professorship in physics from 1967. Šlaus also taught at the Ruđer Bošković Institute and at universities including UCLA, Duke, Georgetown and Kyoto, while serving in a range of international scientific and civic roles. He was a Distinguished Fellow of New Westminster College, a founding fellow of Academia Europaea, and held posts with the World Academy of Art and Science, the Club of Rome and the Pugwash Council.
