Born in Idah in 1949, he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and led the state from 2003 to 2008 and again from 2008 to 2012. Idris also built business interests through Ibro Trading Company, with holdings in construction, furniture making and hotels, before being succeeded as governor by his brother-in-law, Captain Idris Wada, in 2012.
