
Geovani Silva, a Brazilian footballer who played for Vasco da Gama, Bologna and the national team, died on May 18, 2026, of organ failure.
He was 62. A midfielder, he began his career at Desportiva Ferroviária before moving to Vasco da Gama in 1983.
He won a silver medal as captain of Brazil at the 1988 Summer Olympics and was part of the squad that won the 1989 Copa América. Geovani also played for Brazil at the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer and being named its best player.
