Robert Blakey, an American attorney and emeritus law professor, died on May 1, 2026, at age 90. He was best known for his work in connection with drafting the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, known as RICO, and for scholarship on that subject.
Born in Burlington, North Carolina, on January 7, 1936, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1957 and later earned a law degree from Notre Dame Law School. Blakey was married to Elaine Menard from 1958 until her death in 2002 and was the father of U.S. District Judge John Robert Blakey.
