François Taillandier, the French writer and journalist, died on June 23, 2026, in Paris at the age of 71.
Born in Clermont-Ferrand on June 20, 1955, he built a career across fiction, biography and journalism, and wrote about French contemporary society. He studied classical literature at university and in 1977 completed a memoir on the Marquis de Sade.
After teaching literature from 1979, he left the classroom four years later to become a full-time writer. His work drew on early reading of Balzac and Edmond Rostand, and he was recognized with prizes including the Grand Prix du roman de l’Académie française, the Roger Nimier Prize, the Prix de la critique, the Jean-Freustié Prize and the Grand prix catholique de littérature.
