Major General Francis Takirwa, a Ugandan military officer and former deputy commander of the UPDF Land Forces, died on February 7, 2026.
He had previously served as commanding officer of the Second Division of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, based in Mbarara in the Western Region of Uganda. Born in Mbarara District on November 7, 1965, Takirwa attended Mbarara Junior School and Mbarara High School before joining the Uganda Military.
He later attended military courses in Uganda, Tanzania and China, and obtained a Diploma in African Strategic Studies from the Nasser Higher Military Academy.
