Festus Onigbinde Nigerian football manager dead at age 88

Festus Onigbinde, a Nigerian football manager, died on March 9, 2026.

Born in Modakeke, he coached Nigeria’s national team at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, having also led the side between 1982 and 1984. In 1984, he guided Nigeria to the final of the Africa Nations Cup, where it lost 1–3 to Cameroon.

Later that year, he took over as coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club in Ibadan and led the club to the final of the Africa Club Champions.

Festus “Adegboye” Onigbinde (listen; 5 March 1938 – 9 March 2026) was a Nigerian football manager.
