Heorhij Halenčanka Belarusian historian dead at age 90

Heorhij Halenčanka, a Belarusian historian, died on March 9, 2026.

He was 89. Born in Petrozavodsk on February 28, 1937, he spent most of his childhood in Minsk.

Halenčanka graduated from the Faculty of History of Belarusian State University in 1960 and worked as a librarian at the State Library of the BSSR from 1960 to 1962. He was a medievalist, bibliologist, and expert in Skaryna studies, and received the title of Doctor of Historical Sciences in 1965.

Heorhij Yakaŭlevič Halenčanka (Belarusian: Георгій Якаўлевіч Галенчанка) or Georgy Yakovlevich Golenchenko (Russian: Георгий Яковлевич Голенченко; 28 February 1937 – 9 March 2026) was a Belarusian historian, medievalist, bibliologist, and expert in Skaryna studies. He was a Doctor of Historical Sciences (1965).
