Fazail Agamali, an Azerbaijani politician, historian and professor, died on February 9, 2026, at the age of 78.
He was the founding leader of the Motherland Party, serving in that role from 1990 to 2026. Agamali was a member of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan from 1995 to 2024.
He also served as Deputy and Acting Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Population from 1992 to 1994.
Fazail Rahim ogly Agamali (Azerbaijani: Fəzail Rəhim oğlu Ağamalı; 27 August 1947 – 9 February 2026) was an Azerbaijani politician, historian and professor with a D.Sc. academic degree. He was the founding leader of the Motherland Party between 1990 and 2026. Agamali was a Member of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan from 1995 to 2024. He served as Deputy and Acting Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Population between 1992 and 1994.
