Enrique Bacigalupo, the Argentine lawyer and jurist who served on Spain’s Supreme Court, died on July 16, 2026.
He was 88. Born in Buenos Aires on July 14, 1938, Bacigalupo studied law at the University of Buenos Aires, earning his law degree in 1960 and a doctorate in law and social sciences in 1970.
He taught there until 1967, later spent several years at the University of Bonn after leaving Argentina under threat, and went on to teach at the Complutense University of Madrid. From 1987 to 2011, he served in the Spanish Supreme Court’s second chamber, which handles criminal cases, and he also advised Spain’s Constitutional Court.
