Douglas Hambidge, the British-born Canadian Anglican clergyman who served as the seventh Bishop of Caledonia and New Westminster and ninth Metropolitan of British Columbia, died on March 4, 2026.
Born in London on March 6, 1927, he was educated at London University and ordained in 1953. He served a curacy at St Mark’s, Dalston, and held incumbencies at Cassiar, Smithers and Fort St John.
In 1969 he was elected Bishop of Caledonia, and in 1980 he was elected Bishop and translated to the Diocese of New Westminster. He became Metropolitan of British Columbia in 1981 and resigned in 1993.
