Dogardisc Colombian champeta singer and songwriter, diabetes dies

Dogardisc, the stage name of Colombian champeta singer and songwriter Ismael Simancas, died on January 15, 2026.

Born in Cartagena, Colombia, he was an important figure in the Colombian coastal genre of champeta and was described by El Tiempo as one of the most recognised voices in the genre. His career lasted more than 30 years, and he also spent five years as a percussionist.

Among his noted songs were “El Viejo Zorro,” “El Cachaco Faltón,” “La Mona Lisa,” and “Desplazado de Amor.”

Ismael Simancas (died 15 January 2026), known by the stage name Dogardisc, was a Colombian champeta singer and songwriter.
