Dadeus Grings, a Brazilian Roman Catholic prelate who served as bishop of São João da Boa Vista and archbishop of Porto Alegre, died on September 21, 2026, aged 90.
Born in Nova Petrópolis, Rio Grande do Sul, on September 7, 1936, he was ordained a priest in 1961 after studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Grings later became bishop of São João da Boa Vista in 1991 and was named coadjutor archbishop of Porto Alegre in 2000, succeeding to the archdiocese the following year.
He also served as chancellor of the Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul and was known as a theologian and author of numerous books.
