Cliff Hucul Canadian racing driver dead at age 79

Cliff Hucul, a Canadian racing driver who competed in the Indianapolis 500, died on February 20, 2026.

He raced in USAC and the CART Championship Car series from 1977 to 1981, making 24 combined career starts. His appearances included the 1977, 1978 and 1979 Indianapolis 500.

Hucul finished in the top 10 eight times, with his best result coming in 1979 at Texas World Speedway, where he placed fourth. Born in Prince George, British Columbia, on August 21, 1946, he later made two NASCAR Winston Cup starts in 1986.

Cliff Hucul (21 August 1946 – 17 February 2026) was a Canadian racing driver who participated in USAC and the CART Championship Car series. He raced in the 1977–1981 seasons, with 24 combined career starts, including the 1977–1979 Indianapolis 500. Hucul finished in the top-ten eight times, with his best finish in fourth position in 1979 at Texas World Speedway.
