Burhan Ozfatura, the Turkish mayor, politician and columnist, died on September 21, 2026, at the age of 83 after cardiac arrest.
A native of Mustafakemalpaşa, he was born on June 8, 1943, and completed his secondary education in Balıkesir before graduating from Ankara University’s Faculty of Political Sciences in 1964. He later worked as a tax inspector in the Ministry of Finance, headed the İzmir Tax Inspectors Group, served in the İzmir Revenue Office, and held posts as a lecturer, Prime Ministry adviser and sworn financial consultant.
Özfatura also worked on Turkey’s 24 January economic decisions as a tax specialist and later became a columnist after a career that included public service and academic work.
