Branko Marušič public figure dead at age 88

Branko Marušič, a Slovenian historian, died on May 3, 2026, at the age of 88.

Born in Gorizia, Italy, to an upper middle class Slovene family, he moved with his family to the Yugoslav side of the Yugoslav–Italian border in 1947 and later lived in Solkan. After attending Nova Gorica Grammar School, he studied history at the University of Ljubljana.

Marušič specialized in the political history of the 19th century and wrote extensively on the Slovene–Italian border regions of Goriška and Venezia Giulia. He published in both Slovene and Italian, and his work focused on Slovene–Italian relations in the 19th and 20th centuries.
