Bishwa Bandhu Thapa, a Nepalese politician, died on February 14, 2026.
He was regarded as a key figure in the early days of Nepal’s Panchayat system and was seen as one of its architects. Thapa served as the first chairman of the Rastriya Panchayat from 1963 to 1964.
Born on 9 September 1927 in Saharsa, in British India, he later studied at Kashi Hindu Vishwavidyalaya in Benaras and was a founding member of the Nepali National Congress in 1946.
