Andrzej Olechowski, the Polish politician who served as minister of finance in 1992 and minister of foreign affairs from 1993 to 1995, died on April 25, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born in Kraków on September 9, 1947, he was a co-founder of Civic Platform in 2001 with Maciej Płażyński and Donald Tusk. Olechowski ran as an independent candidate in Poland’s 2000 presidential election, finishing second, and later stood as Civic Platform’s candidate for president of Warsaw in 2002.

He left the party in 2009 and later cooperated with the Democratic Party.
