András Riedlmayer, a Hungarian-born American art historian and librarian, died on February 10, 2026.
Born in Budapest in 1947, he studied at the University of Chicago and at Princeton University, where he lectured in Ottoman history and Near Eastern Studies. He served as president of the Ottoman and Turkish Studies Association and as a member of the board of the Islamic Manuscript Association.
Riedlmayer was also director of the Documentation Center for Islamic Architecture of the Aga Khan Program and served as an expert witness on the destruction of cultural heritage in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
