Alex Cropley Scottish footballer dead at age 75

Alex Cropley

Alex Cropley, a Scottish footballer who played for Hibernian, Aston Villa and the Scotland national team, died on March 26, 2026.

Born in Aldershot, Hampshire, and raised in Edinburgh, he was a midfielder who began his career with Hibernian. He was part of the club’s early-1970s team known as “Turnbull’s Tornadoes” and won the Scottish League Cup in 1972 after Hibernian beat Celtic 2-1 in the final.

Cropley later played for Arsenal, Newcastle United and Portsmouth, and was capped for Scotland.

Alexander James Cropley (16 January 1951 – 27 March 2026) was a professional footballer who played as a midfielder for Hibernian, Aston Villa, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Portsmouth. Born in England, he was capped for the Scotland national team.
