Alan Murray, the English footballer and manager who died on June 21, 2026, was 76.
Born in Newcastle upon Tyne on November 5, 1949, he began his career at Middlesbrough and later went on to play for York City, Brentford, Doncaster Rovers and Frickley Athletic. Murray also moved into coaching and management, taking charge at Hartlepool United in 1991 when Cyril Knowles was battling a brain tumour, before a 17-month spell at Darlington in which he helped lift the club away from the foot of the Football League.
He later worked alongside former teammate Graeme Souness.
