Escobar García, whose full name was Zenyazen Roberto Escobar García, was affiliated with the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) and was serving as the federal deputy for Veracruz’s 16th district at the time of his death. Born in Nogales, Veracruz, on June 4, 1984, he had previously held a plurinominal seat in the Congress of Veracruz from 2016 to 2018 and served as Veracruz’s education secretary from 2018 to 2023 in the administration of Cuitláhuac García Jiménez.
He later sought Morena’s nomination for the 2024 Veracruz gubernatorial election.
