J. Frecklington, the Australian carriage maker known as William James Frecklington and Jim Frecklington, died on September 11, 2026, aged 76.
Born in Parkes, New South Wales, in about 1949, he built a career working with ceremonial carriages and horses. He was an old boy of The Scots College in Sydney, graduating in 1968, and later worked in the Arctic before moving to England. There, he was engaged at Windsor Castle and subsequently served at the Royal Mews in London, where he cared for the royal ceremonial horses and drove carriages on ceremonial occasions. He also worked as an outrider at Ascot.
