Vítězslav Vávra, the Czech singer and drummer, died on July 2, 2021, aged 68.

Born in Prague, he began his music career in the early 1970s with the amateur group Hills, helped found the band Ges in 1973, and went on to play drums with Faraon. In 1974 he met Petr Hannig, who brought him into the group Maximum and also recognized him as a vocalist, leading Vávra to perform both solo and in duets with Lenka Kořínková.

He struck out on his own in 1983 with Monogram and became especially popular in the 1980s, when he recorded a string of hits and earned the nickname of the “singing drummer.” Over his career he released four vinyl LPs and four CDs.
