Umberto Allemandi Italian publisher dead at age 88

Umberto Allemandi, an Italian publisher and editor, died on March 11, 2026.

Born in Turin on March 9, 1938, he started working as a copywriter with Armando Testa in the 1970s. In 1983, he founded the art newspaper Il Giornale dell’Arte, which he published for 42 years.

In 1990, with Anna Somers Cocks, he launched an English edition, The Art Newspaper, which he co-edited until 2002. He later launched the French edition Le Journal des arts in 1994 and published Il Giornale dell’Architettura from 2002 to 2014.
