Jean-François Boclé Martinican artist dead at age 54

Jean-François Boclé, a French artist and Martinican artist, died on March 11, 2026, at the age of 54.

Born in 1971 in Fort-de-France, Martinique, he spent his childhood years in Saint-Esprit before moving to Paris at 15, where he lived and worked until his death. After studying modern literature at Sorbonne University, he trained at the École nationale supérieure d’art de Bourges and the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts of Paris.

His practice mixed poetic writing with installation, painting, sculpture, video, photography, interventions in public space and performance.
