Gladys Kokorwe Botswanan politician, speaker of the National Assembly dead at age 78

Gladys Kokorwe, a Botswanan politician and speaker of the National Assembly from 2014 to 2019, died on March 11, 2026.

She was a member of the Botswana Democratic Party. Kokorwe, whose full name was Gladys Keitumetse Theresa Kokorwe, had earlier served as a senior civil servant before entering politics.

Elected to the National Assembly in 1994, she later served as assistant minister from 1999 to 2004 and as deputy speaker from 2004 to 2008. She also served as a minister in Ian Khama’s government from 2008 to 2009 and later as Botswana’s ambassador to Zimbabwe.

Gladys Keitumetse Theresa Kokorwe, PH (20 November 1947 – 11 March 2026) was a Botswanan politician who was the Speaker of the National Assembly from 2014 to 2019. She was a member of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
