
Niaz Ahmed Jhakkar, a Pakistani politician and former member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, died on March 11, 2026, at the age of 71.
Born in Layyah, West Punjab, Pakistan, on July 18, 1954, he served in the National Assembly from August 2018 until January 2023. Jhakkar was elected from NA-139 Layyah-I in the 1988 Pakistani general election as a candidate of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), receiving 43,056 votes to defeat Syed Muhammad Khurshid Ahmed Shah Bukhari of Pakistan Awami Ittehad.
He later contested the 1990 election from the same constituency as a candidate of the Pakistan Democratic Alliance but was unsuccessful.
