Uladzimir Karyzna Belarusian poet dead at age 87

Uladzimir Karyzna, a Belarusian poet who co-wrote the lyrics of Belarus’s current national anthem, My Belarusy, died on March 6, 2026.

Born in Zakruzhka, Minsk District, on May 25, 1938, he graduated from Belarusian State University in 1961. He later taught Belarusian and Russian language and literature in a village school in Opsa, Braslaw District, and headed a literary association at the regional newspaper Braslaw star.

From 1967, he worked for 13 years at Republican radio as an editor, senior editor and head of the Belarusian music division. He also served as an editor at Polimya, Youth and Well.

Uladzimir Ivanavich Karyzna (Belarusian: Уладзімір Іванавіч Карызна, Russian: Владимир Иванович Каризна, romanized: Vladimir Ivanovich Karizna; 25 May 1938 – 5 March 2026) was a Belarusian poet. He co-wrote the lyrics of the current national anthem of Belarus, My Belarusy.
