Lolo Matalasi Moliga American Samoan politician dead at age 78

Lolo Matalasi Moliga, an American Samoan politician, educator and businessman who served as the seventh governor of American Samoa from 2013 to 2021, died on March 6, 2026, in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the age of 78.

Born in Taʻū, American Samoa, on August 12, 1947, he attended Papatea Junior Elementary, Samoana High School and Manu’a High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Chadron State College in Nebraska. Moliga began his career as a teacher, later serving as an elementary school principal, the principal of Manu’a High School, an education administrator in the American Samoan Department of Education, director of the ASG Budget Office and American Samoa’s chief procurement officer for two terms.

Lolo Letalu Matalasi (August 12, 1947 – March 6, 2026) was an American Samoan politician, educator and businessman. He served as the seventh governor of American Samoa, from 2013 to 2021.
