Born in Toronto in 1928, Gayford competed for Canada in the 1952 and 1960 Olympics in the individual and team three-day events, but did not finish either competition. He won gold in show jumping with the Canadian team at the 1968 Olympics and was later recognized by Canada‘s Sports Hall of Fame.
