The Bridewell Taxis, an English singer and Leeds-based indie rock group associated with the Madchester scene, died on March 24, 2026.

The band, later known as The Bridewells, was active from 1987 to 1993. Formed in Leeds in 1987, it was originally called Morality Play and gave its first public performances at an Unemployed Music project in the city.

Its first gig was in 1988 at the Royal Park, and its first release was the free blue flexi-disc “Lies” c/w “Just Good Friends”, issued with a local fanzine.

The Bridewell Taxis (later The Bridewells) were an English, Leeds-based indie rock group, active from 1987 to 1993. The Bridewell Taxis were briefly known as one of the few bands from east of the Pennines to make an impact on what was to become known as the Madchester scene.
