
Ted Nichols, an American composer, conductor and arranger best known for his work on Hanna-Barbera productions including The Flintstones and Jonny Quest, died on January 9, 2026, at age 97.
Born Theodore Nicholas Sflotsos on October 2, 1928, in Missoula, Montana, he legally changed his name at age 19. Nichols was also an educator and minister of music, and from 1963 to 1972 he composed scores for numerous Hanna-Barbera shows, including Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, Space Ghost, Birdman and the Galaxy Trio, and Josie and the Pussycats.
