
Shafique Ahmed, a Bangladeshi lawyer and former minister of law, justice and parliamentary affairs, died on April 12, 2026, at the age of 88.
He served as Bangladesh’s minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs from 2009 to 2013. Born on July 16, 1937, in Comilla District, then in Bengal Presidency, British India, Ahmed earned degrees in geography, law and international law from the University of Dhaka and King’s College London, and received his Bar-at-law from Lincoln’s Inn in 1967.
He was enrolled as an advocate at the High Court in 1967, became a senior advocate in the Appellate Division in 1989, taught at the University of Dhaka’s law department from 1969 to 1973 and served as principal of City Law College, Dhaka, from 1973 to 2005.
