Sankar, the Indian writer known for his Bengali-language novels and essays, died on February 20, 2026, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, at the age of 92.
Born Mani Sankar Mukherjee on December 7, 1933, in Hindmotor in Hooghly district, he was widely known by his pen name Sankar in Bengali- and English-language literature. He grew up in Debdoot Sheet Nagar in Howrah and later served as Sheriff of Kolkata.
His work included books on Swami Vivekananda and other writings in Bengali.
