Born in Bombay, British India, on October 2, 1941, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after studying at the University of Cambridge and later joined the National Theatre, where he worked under Sir Laurence Olivier. Dastor’s stage and television career ranged from the West End, where he played Ariel in The Tempest alongside Paul Scofield as Prospero, to British television, where he became a familiar presence in series including I, Claudius.

He also appeared in several of Simon Gray’s plays, including Melon, Hidden Laughter and Cell Mates.
