Peter Simpson, the English footballer who played most of his career as a defender with Arsenal, died on May 13, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born in Gorleston-on-Sea, Norfolk, he joined Arsenal’s groundstaff in 1960, signed as an apprentice in October 1961 and turned professional in May 1962. He made his first-team debut against Chelsea in a First Division match on March 14, 1964.
After making 22 appearances over three seasons, he became a regular in the side following Bertie Mee’s appointment before the 1966–67 season and remained a mainstay for much of the next decade.
