Born Nariman Alimammad oglu Hasanzade on February 18, 1931, in Poylu, he was educated at Baku State University. Over the course of his career, he worked as a writer, poet, playwright, prose writer, translator and editor, and served as editor-in-chief of Edebiyyat va incasanat from 1976 to 1990.

From 1991 to 2001, he was First Deputy Minister of Press and Information. Hasanzade died in Baku, and his honors included the People’s Poet of Azerbaijan, the Shohrat Order, the Sheref Order and the Independence Order.
