Merle Boucher, an American politician and former member of the North Dakota House of Representatives, died June 11, 2026, at age 79.

Born July 19, 1946, in Rolette, North Dakota, he represented the 9th district in the state House from 1991 to 2011 and served as minority leader from 1996 to 2011. A Democrat-NPL figure, Boucher also sought his party’s nomination for governor in 2004 and 2008, then ran for lieutenant governor as Tim Mathern’s running mate in 2008.

In 2010, he was the Democratic-NPL nominee for agriculture commissioner. He studied at the State School of Forestry, later earned a teaching degree from Mayville State University in 1970, and was also a teacher and rancher.
